Mother's Day Again

So it is Mother's Day again. I have to say that Mother's Day has not been the best holiday for me. I have been a mother for 2 Mother's Days now and they both have not been the best. Last year I was in a lot of pain from giving birth to little Lincoln (I sound like a big wimp because he was 3 weeks old, but I vividly remember the pain on this day last year). I am pretty sure I had ran out of my prescription for Percocet. It was an easy labor and delivery, but a tough recovery. This year it looked like Mother's Day was going to be great, but last night Lincoln decided to remind me that my job is never-ending! It is 24 hours a day! He was up from 1 am until 6 am moaning and crying. He has a cold and is cutting a tooth. Maybe the 3rd time is the charm? Despite it all, being a mom really is the BEST!

It has made a big impression on me and made me re-evaluate my life and priorities. (I also had a good cry!)

My wedding dress . . .

. . . will be missed. I sold it today on craigslist.com. I really loved that dress. The moment I tried it on I knew it was "the one"! It has been sitting in a closet at my parents house for the past 3 years, so I figured it was time to let someone else enjoy it. The girl I sold it to is getting married in 2 weeks at the Newport Beach Temple and was desperate to find a dress. She had one custom made, but it is too short. My dress is exactly what she wanted! I guess I am happy to help someone out!

The past year I have learned that going shopping with Lincoln is much harder than running around town in my pre-baby days. Sometimes is just seems like such a job to pack the diaper bag, load him into the car, remember the shopping cart cover, make sure I have snacks/formula/bottle/diapers etc . . . You get the point! Also the kiddo functions best when he is on a schedule, so I am always planning our shopping outings around his naps, which gives me only a small window of time to get to the store - get what I need - get home. No more window shopping or taking my time. So this year we signed up for Amazon Prime! It is the best! I can shop when ever I want and I get to read tons of product reviews which I think is especially important when buying baby stuff. It only costs $79 a year and you get FREE two-day shipping. It is so nice to be able to research and shop from home while Lincoln is napping. I would really recommend it to anyone because you can buy tons of stuff from amazon! In the past few months we have purchased:

It is perfection, right? The color, the shape - and the best thing, it was free! Yeah, that's right!!! Since I am a soon-to-be home owner, all I can think about is decorating, painting, etc . . . Free is awesome, especially when it's a true vintage lamp from the 1970's. I know you love it! If you don't, you're CRAZY!

Lincoln has a bruise on his ear that he got from pulling a bar stool on himself (this picture is about two weeks after the incident) and a cut on his face - not really sure how that one happened.

When you are a mom, everyday is different. Lincoln surprises me with all the new things he is learning and doing. He is so amazing! He is the best little buddy a girl could as for and I feel so lucky he is mine. The funny thing about being a mom is that it is the best thing ever, but at the same time it is so exhausting. At moments I think to myself "I really need a break or a day off." Even though this kiddo can drive me nuts, I love him so much. One thing that is always the same everyday is Lincoln's bedtime routine. I may be tired from chasing my baby around all day long, but as soon as I put him to bed I miss him and I want to start the day all over again.

Lincoln LOVES the bath! But really, what kid doesn't?

I really feel like I have been blessed with the happiest baby on this earth. All you have to do is glance his way and he will give you a big grin.

So Mark recently decided since he is going to be a dentist and all, that he needed to have better vision. Today he got Lasik! We can already tell that the surgery was a great success since Mark is seeing better already! I must admit, I am really going to miss his glasses - they looked so handsome on him, but I am excited for the ease this will bring to his future career and life in general.

like I said, those glasses are going to be missed. i really love them on him!

Today little Lincoln is 9 months old. I really can't believe how fast he is growing up! I have been thinking all day about how long 9 months felt when I was pregnant - it felt like FOREVER! These past 9 months with Lincoln have come and gone in the blink of an eye. I just wish I could slow time down. Mark and I are so thankful that Heavenly Father gave us the responsibility to care for and teach Lincoln. He is the sweetest little guy - so easy going, curious, and happy. I wish I could re-live these past 9 months all over again because loving this little baby is so easy.

By the way at 9 months Lincoln . . .

*finally has hair - dirty blonde, although he still looks bald from a distance

*uses a sippy cup at meal time - gets a bottle before naps and bedtime - speaking of bedtime, he is a really good sleeper. He takes two good naps and sleeps from about 6:30 pm to 5am, then up for a quick bottle and back to bed for another 2 hours.

*tries to feed himself finger food - sometimes with success

*is a vegetarian - LOVES apples, peaches, pears, pumpkin, prunes, green beans, peas, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes. He also enjoys yogurt, rice, oatmeal, and puffs!

*is a super speedy crawler and can walk up to 15 steps in a row and sometimes runs when his walking gets a little out of control. He practices walking all day long and his mom and dad can hardly keep up with him.

*is very curious and loves to explore. He gets into everything!

*laughs a lot! Loves to play peek-a-boo, be thrown in the air, and hang upside down.

*loves people and is not shy at all.

*is ticklish on his neck, back, chest, and feet.

*has two teeth, barely.

*enjoys blowing raspberries and drooling everywhere.

*weighs 19 lbs 11 oz , 28 inches tall - all in the 40th percentile.

*likes swimming and sitting in the hot tub.

*can't sit still during church.

*loves his toys and his new favorite is a pot lid that he push around the kitchen.

*is pretty much the coolest, cutest kiddo around - in the opinion of his mom and dad!

Resolutions?

So it's a new year, but unfortunatly the same resolutions. WHY? Because life never turns out the way you've planned. I am learning this lesson everyday. I always seem to have these big plans to be healthier, be a better mother and wife, always have a clean house, learn to cook well, complete projects etc . . . and it never seems to happen the way I imagine. So as another year has come and gone I guess all I can do is try again.

Lincoln has been so interested in food lately, so we decided to start him on some solids. On the menu - rice cereal and bananas. He was a little hesitant at first - making funny faces that I have never seen before with each bite, but I think he started to like his big boy food. I can't believe how fast he is growing up! He is such a fun baby and we love him so much!

This past week has been crazy in the Greenburg household. My parents were in town for a wedding and business, while my brother Gordon and his family were in Denver for a medical conference. It was great to have everyone around. I got to enjoy a few things that Denver has to offer including the zoo and the king Tut exhibit! We also got to eat at Cafe Mexicali (my favorite Mexican restaurant which my parents conveniently own!) It was fun playing host, but I am happy to get back to our regular routine.

After five months Lincoln has finally got his own room. I have been spending all my time decorating his nursery! I must say that I love it and I had so much fun painting all the picture frames, his name, the star hooks, trash can, and lamp! I am in so much trouble now that I have discovered Hobby Lobby because I might just spend every last penny in our diminishing bank account!

So I have never ever been a very good blogger, but I have many friends that inspire me to be the blogging type. One in particular - Chelsey - is so creative and has so much to say and share. I think that I tell Mark every week that I need to blog because everyone does it - it is the "in" thing to do! Mark always emphasizes that I should do things that I love to do, not do things that everybody else loves to do just because it is popular. He has a point. Most of the time blogging seems like such a chore to me. I have not posted anything for 4 months during which so much has happened! Here is a brief list:

*Gave birth to the most handsome baby boy Lincoln
*Spent every moment of my time tending to his every needs and loving it.
* Learned to function on little to no sleep
* Took care of my other baby Mark after having back surgery and spending (count them) 6 days in the hospital in the most pain ever
*Moved out of our apartment very slowly over two months because Mark is not allowed to lift anything over 30 pounds
*Quit my job
*Attended the Greenburg Family reunion in Midway Utah followed by a week hanging out with my Mom
*My sweet husband gave Lincoln a name and a blessing the the ward that I grew up in. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard
*I am learning daily to deal with my new challenges as a wife and mother
*I have felt much guilt about not documenting this very exciting and new experience as a mother, but I can't blame myself because life has never been more challenging or busy.

So now that life has mostly settled down into a routine I have some goals including being the best mother I can be, taking up photography, decorating my new home (my MIL basement) and doing a nursery for Lincoln, making a wedding album and baby book for my boy, losing the remaining baby weight, and yes blogging. Although it is really not my favorite thing to do, it is something I want to force myself to love because another goal is to keep a journal and I think that blogging is a great way to document the day to day things that makes life so wonderful.

Finally, what is a blog post without some pictures? Boring! So here are a few pictures of Lincoln this past month. He is growing up so fast and has so much personality. I am the luckiest girl in the world to have the responsibility of being a mother to this sweet baby boy who I love soooo much!

I just got back from the doctor with exciting news to share with anyone who may be reading! Dr. Z said to have my bags packed because this little guy could come very soon. The doctor predicted he would be preterm (born before 37 weeks), but she does not know for sure - just her suspicion. Dr. Z said I was dilated to a good 2 cm and was 80% effaced!!! She said his head is really low and that I could dilated to 3 cm any time now. I can't believe I am going to be a Mom - WOW, I feel overwhelmed. I am so ready to meet this little guy.

32 weeks and in the hospital :(

Our little guy!!!

So two weeks ago today I found myself being admitted to the hospital for preterm labor. It all started the previous night when I began contracting. Now, contracting is nothing new for me, but it was accompanied with an uncomfortable pain that kept me up all night. I finally climbed into bed at about 5:30 am, just as Mark was getting out of bed to study for a huge Organic Chemistry test that he had to take in the afternoon. I slept until about 9:00 am and then got up to drive Mark to school in downtown Denver. Mark asked me to call the doctor, but I was in denial. The pain I had all night was gone, and I felt like the contractions had mostly stopped, but I forced myself to call because nothing is more important to me than having a healthy baby.

I was told to go to L&D ASAP to be monitored. I got all hooked up and kinda felt like a crazy, over concerned pregnant lady with hormones and that the monitor would not show nothing, but to my surprise I was contracting every 2-3 minutes. They watched me for about 30 minutes and then tried to stop the contractions with a shot of terbutaline. This worked for about 15 minutes, but they started again. The nurse came in to check my dilation and I was at 1 cm and 70% effaced which does not seem like a lot, but I guess is a huge deal for a first pregnancy. The Nurse Practitioner came in and told me that I was going to be admitted and given IV medication to stop labor and that I needed to have an amniocentesis. WHAT? I kinda started to freak out! An amniocentesis is basically when you get and BIG, LONG needle place into the uterus and amniotic fluid is aspirated for testing. They do this with the assistance of ultrasound so they don't hit the baby. I was still in triage when Mark called me after his test. I was suppose to pick him up. I asked him how his test went and then informed him I would not be picking him up because I was getting admitted to the hospital. I told him to rush to the hospital because the were going to stick me with a huge needle and I needed someone to hold my hand. Luckily he made it just in time.

To make a long story shorter, I was in the hospital for two days, got stuck by 10 different needles and a catheter (which was the worst ever!), and gained about 8 pounds of fluid which caused me to have difficulty breathing because of fluid buildup in the lungs. On the up side, baby is healthy and we got some awesome 3D pictures of him, his lungs are now mature if he does decide to come early, and I don't have to work anymore!!!

So bedrest is the doctor's order!

So we got back form Hawaii about a week ago and it was fabulous and I have no complaints, except one event did kinda make me sad - I accidentally burned my bangs off with my flat iron. I totally did not see it coming. I think that I broke my flat iron by dropping it in a sink full of water. The next time I used it my bangs were fried off in a split second. I was in shock for a couple of minutes and then I cried a little bit. Luckily, I am still able to style my hair in a way that my burnt bangs are not really noticeable, but it is still a darn shame. I miss my trendy bangs!

Mark and I were lucky enough to spend a few days in Boston with my brother's family. We were able to go to the beach, visit Concord where the Revolutionary War began, and do the "Freedom Trail." We had a great time playing with our nephews and eating great food. We had planned to go to a Red Sox game at Fenway, sadly the trip was shortened when I got a very bad cold and decided to go home early.!!! We had a great time!

My wonderful husband, Mark, just bought me a new sewing machine!!! Yeah! Here are some pictures of my first project!!! It was supposed to be a bag for the beach because we are going to Hawaii, but it turned out just a little too small for a couple of beach towels, sunscreen, and sun glasses. Booooooo! I love it anyway. I am now working on a apron - exciting!!!
